Our Story

WE ARE ON A MISSION.

In 2013, we set out to create a home for badass women everywhere. We exist to empower every kind of woman to be the best possible version of herself, smashing gender roles and the patriarchy in the process. Sometimes this means giving her the confidence to rock a suit to the party. And other times it means supporting her in taking a stand against reproductive injustice, gender violence, labor inequality and, well, the current administration. Our store may be founded upon a woman's right to menswear, but our core is founded upon a woman's right to rights.

WE ARE FEMALE-FOUNDED AND WOMEN-RUN.

Wildfang was started by three women intent on breaking all the rules that begged to be broken. With little more than the money in their pockets and the shirts on their backs, CEO Emma Mcilroy, COO Julia Parsley, and Creative Director Taralyn Thuot quit their respective day jobs and pursued their collective daydream—creating a safe, supportive, inclusive, and inspiring space for women everywhere. Today we have expanded into a small business of 20ish part-timers, full-timers and over-timers, who eat, sleep and breathe fashion and feminism. (Sometimes we sing it, too—we’re prone to bouts of karaoke.)

WE ARE A FAMILY.

With our website + stores in NYC, LA, and Portland, we are building a family of heroines and hellions, risk takers and rulebreakers, and fashion-forward feminists. We are lucky enough to count some seriously rad women as members of our family—from Evan Rachel Wood to Janelle Monae, Lizzo to Megan Rapinoe, Kim Gordon to Ellen Page. Every month we offer our community an unedited, uncensored platform to speak about issues that matter to them at our Free Speech Event. Take a listen here.

AND WE ARE FIGHTING LIKE HELL FOR WHAT MATTERS.

We walk the walk, giving back $400K and counting this year. In 2017, we helped raise over $75,000 for charities including Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, Joyful Heart, and the Tegan and Sara Foundation. In February 2018 alone, we raised over $100,000 to help save the last abortion clinic in South Dakota, and in June 2018 we raised over $250,000 for RAICES with our "I Really Care" collection. Additionally, a percentage of all full price goods across our entire site go directly to a rotating monthly charity. To learn more about the charities we've supported, click here.
